Yadatore Sri Yogandeshwara Saraswathi samasthanam in Krishnarajanagar, Mysore District on the banks of Kaveri is one of many institutions that follow Sri Shankara’s tradition. This institution has been contributory in the Spritual, Religious, Cultural and Social Spheres.
Around 800 years ago, Shri Shri Yoganandeshwara Saraswati Mahaswamiji, a great ascetic and a yogi, established this Math in Krishnarajanagara Taluk of Mysore, on the banks of the holy river Kaveri, to support practice of Vaidika Dharma. The Math came to be called as Yadathore Shri Yoganandeshwara Saraswati Math. Several ascetics of Advaita tradition have decorated the peetha of the Math so far.
The name of Shri Shri Ramabrahmananda Mahaswamiji stands out even among these names, as an accomplished Sadhaka, and a Jivanmukta. His work, the ‘Tattvasangraha Ramayana’ is an illustration of his erudition. In the fifteenth century, Shri Shri Ramabrahmananda swamiji established a branch of the Math in Holenarasipura, and installed the presiding deity Shri Chaturbhuja Pattabhirama. He also built a temple of Shri Nilakantheshwara. Puja has been offered constantly to both, as though to highlight no-difference between Hari and Hara.
Parama pujya Jagadguru Shri Shri Ramayogabrahmananda Swamiji adorned the Peetha in 1924. Due to floods in 1924, the city was moved to higher places, under the new name of Krishnaraja Nagar. The Jagadguru swamiji built a small building for the Math, and left the body in 1936 after Shishya sweekara in 1933.
Parama pujya Jagadguru Shri Shri Vasudevayogananda saraswati swamiji was from Andhra. He paid attention to the expansion of the Math. In addition to his daily dharmic and adhyatmic activities, he renovated the Math building. His achievement in resurrecting the Math is memorable. He installed a beautiful marble statue of Shri Shankarabhagavatpadah in the year 1954.
Parama pujya Shri Shri Shankarananda saraswati mahaswamiji followed his ashrama dharma meticulously under the guidance of his Guru. He installed the existing grand marble statue of Shri Sharadamba in 1963. Several devotees are being blessed by the darshan of this idol. The Mysore mahasamsthana was closely associated with the math then.Sri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar was very much impressed by Shri Shankarananda. He used to seek guidance in his execution of dharmic, adhyatmic and social events.
Jagadguru Shri Shri Ganapatibharati Mahaswamiji was born in an agnihotri family. He performed 14 extraordinary Yajna yagas like Garudachayana etc. in his Grihasthashrama. He was an accomplished Mimamsaka and a Pandit in Vedas. He adorned the peetha in 1976.
He was keen on literature in languages like English, Hindi, and Tamil. He installed the idol of Satyanarayanaswamy in the math. During the 21 years as Pithadhipati, he also renovated the Holenarasipura math and re-installed the idol of Shri Ramabrahmananda saraswati mahaswamiji. Also renovated the Yadathore Mula matha building and re-installed Shri Yoganandeshwara Mahaswamiji. He conducted the Shata Chandi Yaga for social well-being. He was thus engaged in several activities for upholding of Sanatana Dharma.
The present peethadhipati, the most venerable Shri Shri Shankarabharati Mahaswamiji, has adorned the Peetha in 1995 with the divine blessings of the Sringeri Jagadguru. He has been constantly engaged in dharmic, adhyatmic and social activities.
He renovated the dilapidated building of the Srimatha of Krishnarajanagara, and performed Kumbhabhisheka in 1998. He has also held dharmic events such as Sahasrachandi Mahayaga, Atirudra Svahakara. He built the Ramabrahmananda pravachana mandira at the branch math at Holenarasipur, Ramanivasa at Krishnaraj Nagar, and branch math at Bangalore etc.
Shri Ramotsava, Sharannavaratri utsava, Vardhanti mahotsava of H.H, Mahashivaratri, Rathotsavas at Holenarasipur of the deities Shri Nilakantheswara, and Shri Pattabhirama, several vritas, etc. are being conducted on a regular basis.
